First Aid Training
At Ackers Adventure we run a series of First Aid Courses that will provide you with the skills
and knowledge required to provide immediate help and support in an emergency situation. The courses can be delivered to individuals, groups, companies or schools, here at the fully
equipped Ackers site or at another suitable venue of your choice
The courses vary in price depending on the level at which you want to become qualified.
Prices range from £25.00 to £180.00 per person subject to availability. All courses meet the requirements of H & S Executive First Aid Regulations 1981.
Courses offered:
- Emergency Aid Certificate (The very basics of First Aid, including resuscitation (CPR))
- Appointed Person Certificate (Covering all the basic principles of First Aid)
- First Aid at Work Certificate (Covers all the requirements to become a First Aider at work)
- FAW Revalidation
- Renewal Certificate of the above course
- Aquatic First Aid (The qualification for instructors of water-sports)
- Outdoor First Aid Course (Covers all basic principles of outdoor First Aid)

Climbing Courses
Basic Climbing Course
Dates by arrangement
This course is an excellent introduction to climbing, as well as covering related techniques
such as belaying, abseiling and rope work. This course can be spread over evenings or during 1 day.
£80 per person
Beyond The Basics
Dates by arrangement
Beyond the basics follows on from the basic climbing course above and looks at
developing skills further with an understanding of more advanced rope techniques. This course can be spread over evenings or during a day

Pre SPA Training
12th - 13th January, 6th - 7th March, 27th - 28th July
This course is for climbers and potential instructors to get on the right track before
undertaking the SPA Training Course. Course length is 2 days
£180.00 per person
SPA Training
6th - 7th March, 27th - 28th July
This course is for climbers wishing to train as potential leaders of groups on single pitch
routes course length is 2.5 Days
£180.00 per person
Rescue Techniques
Dates by arrangement
This course is designed for the club climbers that are experienced climbers, but have not
learnt or looked at the rescue techniques that might otherwise choose to use. The course is aimed at climbers that are leading or aspiring to lead. This course will provide the climber
with necessary tools to either perform a rescue or at least buy some extra time to call on the professional mountain rescue teams. Course length is 4 hours

Canoe and Kayak Courses
Bell Boat Helm Award (Course by arrangement)
A qualification sufficient for individuals to lead groups on Bell Boats. 1 Day
Paddlesport Start (Course dates: 13/01, 20/03, 31/07, 06/11)
An encouragement course that leads in to the 1 star award. 3 hrs
1 Star Canoe / Kayak (Course dates: 13/01, 20/03, 31/07, 06/11)
The 1 Star course is designed as a clear steppingstone to becoming a paddler. 1 Day
2 Star Canoe / Kayak (Course dates: 13-14/02, 20-21/03, 31-01/08, 6-7/11)
An improvement award that helps paddlers develop both canoe and kayak paddling skills
on flat water. 2.5 Days
3 Star Canoe / Kayak (Course by arrangement)
Moving water course enabling a more effective paddle standard. 2 Day
3 Star Touring Canoe / Kayak (Course by arrangement)
Similar to above but does not involve fast water
3 Star Assessment (Course by arrangement)
Offering opportunity to gain 3 Star Award
4 Star Leadership Canoe / Kayak (Course by arrangement)
For those wishing to lead competent paddlers
Skiing
(For skiing and snowboarding starter lessons please see the ski activities page)
Snowplough & Parallel Plus Ski Sessions
Snowplough Plus aims at improving the skills of skiers who have recently passed the four
Starter Lessons and / or who are of a snowplough turn standard. This session will develop your own personal skiing in preparation for becoming a parallel level. This session covers
carving techniques and can improve the skiers general skiing as well as their style. A minimum standard of basic parallel turns is required. In the summer months these two
sessions are combined and we recommend you phone before hand to guarantee your place.
Wednesdays from 6.15pm – 7.45 £16.00 Adults / £11.00 Juniors
Occasional Saturday sessions available - please call for details.
Condensed Ski Course
16th January, 6th February, 6th March
An excellent ‘fast’ way to learn to ski with other beginners. Five hours tuition (plus breaks),
spread either over two evenings, a Saturday or a weekend, by arrangement.
Condensed Ski Course: Adults £80, Juniors £55
Become An Instructor
Ski Instructor
If you are aged over 16 and can do basic parallel turns, why not join the Aspirant Instructor
Training Sessions that are run at Ackers Adventure. The sessions will take you through all the required stages to become a Snowsport England Club Instructor. The sessions will
improve your own personal level of skiing and break it down into it’s basic form in order to be able to teach it.
Snowboard Instructor
If you can snowboard to a good level or hold any snowboarding qualifications and you are
interested in becoming an instructor please give us a call and ask to speak to Mark Scott, Head of Winter Sports.
Climbing Instructor
Ackers Adventure offers a full range of climbing courses, including pre-SPA training right up
to SPA training and assessment. Please call Dave Bateman, Activities Manager, for more information.
Canoe or Kayak Instructor
Ackers Adventure offers a full range of courses ranging from complete novices right up to
coaching training and assessments. If you are interested in training to be a canoe or kayak instructor then please ask to speak to Dave Bateman, Activities Manager.
Archery Instructor
27th - 28th February & 6th - 7th March
Ackers Adventure runs GNAS courses to allow individuals to instruct archery to Grand
National Archery Society standards.
