GET Skiing / GO Skiing – Penguin Ski School


4 to 7 Year Olds – Ackers Adventure Penguin Ski School is designed for 4 to 7 year olds and is arranged in smaller groups providing a better experience for this special young age group allowing for more individual attention.

Weekends – Ackers Adventure Penguin Ski School is on most weekends and is designed for children who have little or no ski experience. Lessons are one hour long and all ski equipment is included.

Maximum Learning – Our dedicated instructors are on hand to offer guidance and assistance, and small class sizes provides for maximum learning.

4 Stages – Our four stage instruction programme take participants from being complete beginners up to a competent recreational standard skier and then to ski in control without instruction.

Penguin Package – As encouragement into regular participation our special Ackers Adventure Penguin Ski Package offers 6 hours of tuition at a specially discounted price. Simply book the Penguin Package and then book the Penguin Lessons as you require.

GO Skiing and Improve with Penguin Plus

After Stage 4 – Penguin Plus is for those youngsters that have completed the 4 stages of Penguin Ski School. This more advanced session will build on existing confidence and develop skills.

‘GET Skiing’ Starter Lessons – Ackers Adventure Ski School offers ‘GET Skiing’ starter lessons for beginners. Our 4 progressive levels will take you from a complete beginner to a recreational standard*. Each Starter Lesson is for 1 hour and are regularly scheduled in the evenings and during weekends on a on-demand required basis. Please note that some levels may have to be repeated before booking on to the next level.

Starter Packages – Our Starter Ski Packages are a more cost effective way of learning to ski offering you a pack of 6 one hour lessons at a heavily discounted price. Simply buy the package and then book your lessons as you require them.

8 Years Old & Upwards – Starter lessons are suitable for 8 years and upwards.

Learn Quickly – For those looking to learn to ski and get to a recreational standard* quickly:

  • Learn To Ski In A Day – 5 hours of tuition in one day.

Great Value – The Ackers Adventure Ski School will will get up to speed with everything you need for that trip away. Ackers Adventure provides these specially packaged ski courses to offer great value for money.

GO Skiing – Improve Your Skiing

Snowplough Plus

After Starter 4 – Improve Your Skiing with Snowplough Plus Ski Sessions that improve the skills of skiers who have recently passed the four Starter Lessons and/or are of a recreational standard.

Develop Your Skiing – This session will develop your own personal skiing to become a parallel level skier. This session can cover different techniques such as using ski poles, pole planting and carving. This can help improve the skiers general skiing as well as their style.

Minimum Standard – A minimum standard of basic snowplough turns is required from the top of the main slope. This session is combined with the Parallel Plus Session and booking beforehand is essential.

Parallel Plus

Learn to Ski Parallel – This session will continue to develop your own personal skiing techniques. This session covers carving techniques and can improve the skiers general skiing as well as their style.

Improve Your Skiing – Parallel Plus Ski Sessions are aimed at improving the skills of skiers who have recently passed the Starter 4 Level and / or who are of a good snowplough turn standard.

Combined Sessions – A minimum standard of basic parallel turns is required from the top of the main slope. This session is combined with the Snowplough Plus Session and booking beforehand is essential.

Family Lesson

Learn As A family – Book in as a family and learn together with your own personal instructor.

Based on 2 adults and 2 juniors* – A great way of getting the whole family active and enjoying/sharing the ‘learning to ski’ experience together enabling the whole family to ski together and have great fun at the same time.

*Additional participants can be added for an extra charge.

Go Skiing

Go Skiing runs every Thursday evening for 8-16 yr olds and Adults – This is an instructor led session for beginners and depending on numbers the group will be split into an Adult Group and a Junior Group.  It runs every Thursday evening and pre booking is essential.

Relaxed Environment – The session teaches you everything you need to know about skiing in a relaxed environment and is also a great opportunity to meet like minded people. It aims to teach you to become a recreational skier over a period of weeks in preparation for more advanced sessions that we offer.

Personal Tuition

A Great Way To Learn! – An ideal way to learn to ski on a one to one basis or in a small group of up to 5 people.

Rapid Progress – Your Ackers Adventure instructor will have more of a hands on approach that will enable you to develop your skills in a much more rapid manner.

Value Ski Morning

Informal Fun Skiing – These fun skiing sessions are an opportunity for like minded skiing people to have an informal fun ski morning that offers:

Ackers Adventure is the home of The Midland Ski Club and as recognised body offer regular coaching to a high level on 3 nights per week for children, juniors and adults. Offers an enviable quality service that enables members to improve on a continuous pathway to success linking in directly to the national governing bodies, Snowsport England, development programme.

The Special Olympics – West Midlands Ski Group

The Special Olympics – West Midlands Ski Group was founded in 2001, with training sessions held at the Ackers Ski Centre in Birmingham every fortnight. (Check the DIARY page of our West Midlands Special Olympics – Skiing for People with Special Needs for details).

All of our Special Needs athletes belong to a Special Olympic Group within the West Midlands. The number of athletes have steadily increased and we now have 45 skiers training regularly throughout the year.

In addition to the sessions in Birmingham, we have a week of training on snow in Italy every year. We host the West Midlands Special Olympics Open Ski Championship in October, with competitors taking part from England, Scotland and Wales.

Three of our skiers were selected for the GB team that competed in the 2009 World Winter Games in Idaho – returning with two gold and three silver medals. Our group was asked to organise the Special Olympics Great Britain National Championships in January 2012.

JUST Skiing – Recreational Skiing

Already A Skier

Recreational Skiing at Ackers Adventure welcomes all skiers who have achieved the minimum standard of controlled linked turns and use of the ski lift to come and ski with us. This is possible at any time the centre is open, although, it is advisable to phone up before hand and check that there are no special events on and there is space on the slope. Recreational skiing is also offered at 2 hours for the price of 1 on Bank Holidays.

NOTES: Recreational skiing is not currently available on Friday evenings. The Centre is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

(The ability to be a recreational user must must be proven to the Ackers Adventure team before any activity.)


Become A Ski Instructor or Coach

If you are aged over 16 and can do basic parallel turns, why not join the regular Instructor Training Sessions that are run at Ackers Adventure.

The sessions will take you through all the required stages to become a Nationally recognised Snowsport England Instructor. These sessions will improve your own personal level of skiing and break it down into it’s basic form in order to be able to become an instructor.

Ski Slope Hire at Ackers is a great way to bring a group of people together to do something active and have some fun!

You will have exclusive use of the slope and ski centre for the evening with the option of having ski instructors available to teach beginner skiers or give advice to those with more experience.

Ackers can also offer a BBQ for an extra cost or you are welcome to bring your own food and drink.

Skiing At Ackers Adventure

The Ackers Adventure Ski Centre has 3 floodlit synthetic bristle matting slopes available for use throughout the year. The main slope is approximately 100 metres  long and incorporates a button ski lift. There are also two 30 metre nursery slopes; one is dedicated solely to snowboard lessons whilst the other is exclusively used as a nursery slope for teaching beginner ski lessons.

Ackers Adventure Ski School provides skiing lessons and skiing courses all year round for all levels of ability. Including one hour structured ‘GO SKIING’ starter lessons to ‘GET SKIING’ improver courses for the more experienced.

We have everything you need to progress your skiing right here at the Ackers Adventure Ski Centre in the heart of the Midlands. Lessons and courses are designed to offer great value for money and follow an excellent teaching model whilst providing you with continual assessment and input from our instructors.

We aim to provide a flexible and comprehensively set Ski Courses that complement your requirements, fit in with your timetable and meet your expectations. Ackers Adventure Ski Lessons operate all year round at our ski slope near the centre of Birmingham.
